scene 3
After the ridiculous debacle that had ensued the night before, Micah had made good on his threat to walk away from the hospital. The doctors and nurses kept promising to fix him up so that he could go back to school but he really didn't want to go back to school at all. He liked about a grand total of five people and didn't have any interest in going back to a place where something somewhat horrific had happened when it was full of a bunch of people who didn't give a shit or who were all focused on King Jayden. Honestly, Micah didn't mind Jayden these days anymore. In fact, he kind of liked him. However, he had to agree with Sunny that Alex and a lot of others had been acting like Jayden was the only one hurt and going around acting like he was God.

He left his gift baskets and other things behind for Marin to pick up when he came to officially sign Micah out of the hospital and he left in his pajama pants, slippers, and a hoodie. The only thing he wanted was to be in his own bed and not leave it for ages and ages. His plan was to ask Marin to talk to the school about finishing the last few weeks from home. His working hand and arm were out of commission thanks to the sling and he knew it was going to take him ages to get everything accomplished. He didn't see why he needed to just sit through the lectures, unable to take notes if he could just read the text at home. Micah had never been too serious of a student but he planned to do what he needed to accomplish with the home study to move up to his Senior year in August.

Halfway home though, he realized that his escape attempt was taking far more out of him than he realized and he was forced to sit down on a bench outside of a Pizza Hut to take stock of his options. His chest hurt and he was starting to get a headache. Who could he call? Marin was at work and would get the text about signing him out of the hospital once he was off. Casper was at home, having a last day of freedom before his parents came back. Scrolling through his phone book, he kept landing on Christopher.

Indeed, his ex-boyfriend gladly came to pick him up. Christopher drove Micah home after giving him a thorough scolding. Micah insisted that even if Christopher was paying the bills, he wouldn't be going back. He just wanted to be at home. The older man ended up staying and they talked long into the night before they both fell asleep in Micah's bed. The next day, Christopher had some things to take care of and Micah was on his own for most of the day. After spending a couple hours catching up on shows online, he pulled out his phone and texted Avery to invite him to come by on the way home from work.

their reply

Very glad to hear the knock at the door, Micah slid off of his futon bed and came around from behind the curtains to go answer the door. He was pleased to see that Avery wanted to come by although he wasn't sure if the boy had come because he really wanted to or just because Micah had asked. After a lifetime full of different kinds of rejection, Micah was used to just not making an effort very often. He was outgoing enough and enjoyed wearing things that made him feel confident about himself but when it came to friends, it was another matter entirely.

Casper was his best friend and Whitney was the only other friend he had who could compare. They had known each other since they were much younger and had established quite a connection. He'd struck up a friendship with Jamie over the past school year and he and Alex knew each other from church, having been in the same Sunday school class for years. Other than that, people just came and went and Micah didn't often seem to notice or care. Quite a few people had sent him get well gifts and baskets, but honestly none of those people were anyone that Micah would consider a real friend. As it was his third year at Broadway and he'd spent a good amount of time with these people, he knew that unless he was a part of King Jayden's entourage, no one really cared all that much and any gifts given were something akin to survivor's guilt...or non-shot guilt, in this case.

He'd dated a couple of boys during his freshman and sophomore year but nothing much had happened. He'd had sex and gone on dates but it hadn't ever been anything he thought it would. At the end of sophomore year, he had the audacity to have a crush on someone out of his league and had gotten badly burned, resulting in the new 'I don't date high school boys' Micah. His romance with Christopher, the 32 year old son of a fellow church goer had lasted longer than Micah thought it would. It had been the best relationship of his young life and while he knew it wasn't going to last (how could it?) he was still getting over things.

In all honesty, if someone were to ask him to prom, he'd most likely be overjoyed even if it appeared that he were merely just agreeing to give it a shot. For as much as he claimed he wanted to be left alone, Sadie and Sunday and Casper were all nudging him about prom and going back to school. He just wasn't sure he could handle it. Despite Casper and Whitney's friendship, Micah often felt very alone and after the way Alex had seemingly waged war over one comment that had nothing to do with anyone else, Micah felt pretty betrayed and abandoned. All of those bad feelings went away when he saw Avery, though.

"Hey," he grinned, opening the door a little more. "You survived another day selling Gaga and Twilight retail to the masses," he said, motioning for Avery to come in. "How are you?"
